What better way to end Trustees’ Week than to welcome a new trustee on to our Board. Warren Franklin of Kent Police is the Secretary of the Police Superintendents’ Association of England and Wales and one of three new trustees recently welcomed to Police Children’s Fund. We asked Warren why he chose to support us in this way.
Why have you chosen to become a Trustee for the Police Children’s Fund?
I just think it’s a really valuable charity, looking after children of those officers who either unfortunately die in service or who have to retire early. It’s really important to protect their future which has been impacted by their parents either sadly dying or having to leave the police service early.
What does a Trustee’s role involve?
We make sure that we represent the charity in the best way. We look after the money, make sure that it’s spent in the proper way and making sure that we actually protect what those children need.
What are you looking to achieve in your time in post?
For me, it’s making sure that the children that we’re trying to support get the help they need and that we continue to raise funds to ensure that we can provide that support in the long term.
To sum up, what’s so great about the Police Children’s Fund?
I appreciate the Fund’s values, supporting the children and the police family as a whole. Those kids give up something when their parents go to work, so we’re making sure that they’re supported in return.
