A Terrific Trio

A terrific trio of runners are preparing to brave the London Landmarks Half Marathon raising money for Police Children’s Fund.

Mel Warnes, a proud Trustee of the charity, and her friends, Clare Atkinson and Sue Kent, will be lacing up their trainers and pounding the streets of the nation’s capital for our great cause.

And the event – on 12 April – will also mark Sue’s birthday!

“It’s great running with friends,” Mel says. She took part in the half marathon last year in aid of the charity.

“We spend all of the time chatting, so the miles go by a bit easier than running alone.

“When the opportunity came up again to run for Police Children’s Fund, Sue and Clare both wanted to be a part of that.

“It’s great that we can support each other training – it really makes a difference to us.”

Mel is representing the Police Children’s Fund because she has seen the huge difference it makes to the lives of young people.

“Whether it’s helping fund driving lessons, holiday clubs or counselling – it is an amazing charity to be part of,” she adds.

As for Sue, speeding past London’s most famous landmarks is something she has dreamed of for years.

She says: “Honestly I couldn’t be happier! Training is going great and putting in the miles with friends makes all the difference.

“We’re smashing the runs, laughing through the tough bits and ended 2025 on a high.”

Sue is hoping that power of friendship will help her to raise as much money as possible for the charity.

She continues: “Mel told me about Police Children’s Fund and I thought ‘What a brilliant cause!’.

“Combine that with running through iconic London streets – it’s the perfect combo.

“Plus, race day is my birthday. What better way to celebrate than doing something this special?”
