The Fantastic Four…our runners who took part in the London Landmarks Half Marathon raising vital funds for Police Children’s Fund.
Helen, Clare, Mel and Sue joined around 20,000 people on the 13.1-mile central London route passing a number of well-known sights on Sunday.
Mel and Helen are Trustees of the Charity. And Sue was running the half marathon on her birthday!
Helen said: “The run is really important to me to raise vital funds for the children of police officers who’ve died or been injured resulting in medical retirement. We are continuing Catherine Gurney’s legacy of ensuring these children have the educational opportunities that they might not have had otherwise.
“I put my hand up in a Trustees’ meeting last year. It’s just gone by very quickly, but this is an important way of fundraising and also for highlighting for the charity itself; it’s quite a unique, niche charity in terms of raising money for the children of police officers.”
Mel said: “It’s for an absolutely great cause – Police Children’s Fund, who do so much for police children who have either lost a parent or experienced their parent’s ill-health retirement. It’s just a brilliant charity. Every donation makes such a difference to the children and I couldn’t think of a better cause to run for.
“Policing is a job people join to do for life, so it’s a really sad event when you can’t do that job anymore. It’s so important that we help the children of those families, throughout their entire childhood.”
Runners participating for over 800 different charitable causes have raised more than £75m since the London Landmarks Half Marathon began in 2018.
